People strolled by, as you do, eyes down, ears clogged with the latest earphones. Some reluctantly took notice but only to scrutinize for the strings.

She was sitting peacefully, eyes closed. All those years of contempt and belittling, rejecting the presence of anything beyond the realms of the so-called normal made her only stronger. Or at least that’s what she hoped. For the time being, all was well, she could easily keep it floating.

Slowly a flock huddled around the happening. Most people gravitated towards it just to see what the commotion is, why are there so many police officers around.

Police sought to hold doubters back from going under the object but a few managed to shun them and endeavored in the restricted area looking for the trick with which it was suspended. Powerful air jets, magnetic fields or just good ol’ fashioned hidden cords. None of them found anything, though they only had mere seconds before the authorities dragged them out.

After about a half an hour she felt her powers draining so glanced up to see if there was anyone under the vehicle. There wasn’t, so the 7.5-tonne lorry came crashing down. Well, it wasn’t that big of a fall, it was only hovering about 6 feet high anyhow.

A peal of ironic laughter reverberated through the pack that instantly dispersed. “Thought so! She’s nothing but a fake!”
